Today I went into a sowing shop in a Chassidic neighborhood. I like the shop. The ladies are reserved and very modest but attentive to customers. They are hard working but they don't rush. They do good work. The prices are reasonable.
But today, outside the shop, stood a chiloni man. At first I thought he was a soldier. This was not only because he stood with his chest out, blocking the doorway, but also because he was loaded down with, I don't know what it was, I thought it might be a gun and ammo at first, but it might have been camera equipment. No matter, he wore it like a gun. And his face was angry and arrogant and stonelike. I walked past him carefully and nervously.
What was he doing there? Then I saw in this shop full of Chassidic women, two chiloni women. Seemed like a mother and a daughter. Ah, the man was waiting for them. They wore pants, skimpy shirts. Their hair was wild. They certainly didn't belong.
They were looking at something, fabric maybe, and then they started fighting. Barking at each other, grabbing from one another's hands.
It was so dissonant from the Chassidim. It was like two different races of people.
My gosh I thought, Zionism is such a catastrophe. This is what happens when you cast off the Torah and replace it with land and army.
These crazy chilonim could even been descendents of Chassidim, the same Chassidim these nice ladies descended from.
And these people don't understand why we want no part of the army.
