The Gazans elected Hamas because they were less corrupt than Fatah. You think of Hamas as a terrorist organization. Netanyahu makes sure that you do. Yet 90% of what they do is social services and that’s how Gazans think of them. Post election surveys showed that the great majority of Gazans wanted Hamas to drop the talk of violence. The Gazans are poor and they mostly want to eat. Hamas seemed the better way to get basic services.
All we really know, aside from fears and name calling and paranoia, is that Israel pulled out of Gaza and immediately instituted a massive blockade. Per capita GDP in Gaza is $800 a year. That’s less than the Sudan. The missiles followed the blockade. They did not precede them. This is often the case with Israel. The IDF starts up with the Palestinians and then violence follows and then Israel plays the victim.
Study the history carefully and you’ll find that since ‘67 this has been the case more often than not.
