Suspicions on the plane

My suspicions started on Aliyah flight. Where were all the frum people, I wondered. The flight from Newark contained mostly tourists. Supposedly the plane was 1/3 olim. Where were the kippas?

Nearly all of the olim were college kids headed for the IDF. It was like a singles event on the flight. There were a few retirees and just two frum families.

It was the same in the airport as we did the paperwork. There were more NBN people with kippas than olim!

In all of Beit Shemesh Aleph there are 20 or 30 olim kids in the city Ulpan, that's of all ages. Since the Charedim amazingly, incredibly don't participate in the program, I'll assume, given that the number of Charedi schools with olim in them, that there are about 50 olim kids in Ramat A. Darchei Naom has about 5. I'll assume that Magen Avot is a bit more.

So what I'm saying is that not all that many religious Anglos come to Israel. The Aliyah numbers consist mostly of non-religious people. And of the religious ones, a minority are charedi or yeshivish.

Why is this? Is it because coming here as a religious person is foolish. Arguably, with kids over the age of 5 it is.

You can make your own guesses. But what it means for sure is that there will be very little programming for you. There are so few people. What can you expect? That's even if Israelis and frum people had a decent concept of programming.

What they have is a country. It's a real country with medical care and schools. You can participate in them, but there's no help, no introduction, no mentoring, no easing you into it. You are dropped within it. Adults can survive it. Children not necessarily.

Israel pays students to post favorable comments online.

https://www.facebook.com/FromDarknessToLightTRUTH/videos/760705497393111/ There's a few ways of spotting the paid comment makers. One is they generally go for ad homenum attacks. This one is an antisemite, that one is an enemy of Israel, this one is not qualified to speak. I also find it amusing that Noam Chomsky is considered not qualified to speak because his PhD is in linguistics but Alan Dershowitz, a trial attorney, is even though Chomsky is just brimming with relevant facts and Dershowitz is so clearly a manipulator. They are not too educated these commenters.  Also, they also never respond to educated responses because they have no response and possibly they are instructed not to respond so as not to help promote educated thought on the topic.

The Real Charedim

It seems sometimes in the Mistake of Israel that anybody who isn't anti-religious, which essentially is most of the country, is Charedi, ie. claims to be. Oh I'm Charedi. Oh he's Charedi. That's what one hears from people as they march along with their smart phones, flags, and blue jeans. And I won't even give you a picture of how their wives and daughters dress and conduct themselves. They are all Charedi. I suspect that they make this claim because they see that irr-Religious Zionism is so empty. Oh, they still buy into all the myths about the Mistake and the army but they see intuitively that there's nothing else there. They want to latch onto the rich life of real Charedim, and the easy way to do that is with a simple declaration. And what about most of the country being anti-religious, well that's not necessarily how they'd describe themselves. After all, some have religious brothers and sisters and grandmothers. Some are just not hostile people and...
