Because they are impetuous

A Tanna taught in the name of R. Meir: Why was the Torah given to Israel? Because they are  impetuous. The School of R. Ishmael taught: ‘At His right hand was a fiery law unto them’; the  Holy One, blessed be He, said: These are worthy to be given the fiery law. Some say: The laws of  these are like fire, for had not the Law been given to Israel no nation or tongue could withstand  them. And this is what R. Simeon b. Lakish said: There are three distinguished in strength [fierce]:  Israel among the nations, the dog among animals, [and] the cock among birds. Some say: Also the  goat among small cattle. And some say: Also the caper-bush among shrubs. (Beitzah 25b)   Israel runs American Mideast policy. Such is the claim by all sorts of people from former Congresspeople to former CIA agents to college professors to political analysts. No, this isn't 19th century anti-semitism revisited. There's a whole lot of evidence for this as shown in a detailed e...

Later in his speech, Begin said,

Later in his speech, Begin said, “You should not be shocked by the accusation that was mentioned here by MK Nurock, that the prisoners were tortured. It is not my intention to establish this as a fact; I do not know whether there was indeed torture that took place. I do know, however, that the members of your secret police include people who collaborated with the British secret police, sadistic people who tortured the prisoners under their control. Why, then, should you be shocked? Why should you pretend that it is unthinkable? Haven’t there been trials in Israel concerning the use of torture? I am not making accusations; I am merely saying that I want facts, and I want the court to rule on these matters. If you have evidence, then why did you use the emergency provisions of the law? And if you don’t have evidence, then what allowed you to open a concentration camp in Israel? What you have done is a shameful act of terror, a deliberate act that brings more disgrace upon this state tha...

Linked post: We are Israeli reservists. We refuse to serve

"Whenever the Israeli army drafts the reserves — which are made up of ex-soldiers — there are dissenters, resisters, and AWOLers among the troops called to war. Now that Israel has sent troops to Gaza again and reserves are being summoned to service, dozens are refusing to take part. We are more than 50 Israelis who were once soldiers and now declare our refusal to be part of the reserves. We oppose the Israeli Army and the conscription law. Partly, that’s because we revile the current military operation. But most of the signers below are women and would not have fought in combat. For us, the army is flawed for reasons far broader than “Operation Protective Edge,” or even the occupation. We rue the militarization of Israel and the army’s discriminatory policies. One example is the way women are often relegated to low-ranking secretarial positions. Another is the screening" We are Israeli reservists. We refuse to serve

Naim Gileadi

Naim Gileadi, a Jew who grew up in Iraq before WWII, wrote: I could not have recounted any personal grievances that my family members would have lodged against the government or the Muslim majority. Our family had been treated well and had prospered, first as farmers with some 50,000 acres devoted to rice, dates and Arab horses. Then, with the Ottomans, we bought and purified gold that was shipped to Istanbul and turned into coinage. The Turks were responsible in fact for changing our name to reflect our occupation-we became Khalaschi, meaning "Makers of Pure." Britain's pro-Zionist attitude in Palestine, however, triggered a growing anti-Zionist backlash in Iraq, as it did in all Arab countries. Writing at the end of 1934, Sir Francis Humphreys, Britain's Ambassador in Baghdad, noted that, while before WW I Iraqi Jews had enjoyed a more favorable position than any other minority in the country, since then "Zionism has sown dissension between Jews and Arabs, ...

The IDF from the beginning was a propaganda and re-education factory as much as it was an army.

“And there will not come into being among us an army which will fulfill its function in our historical circumstances, if it is not accompanied by a tremendous educational effort, more than in all the armies of the world. The army must serve as a school for maturing youth, a crucible shaping the unity of the nation and its might and culture.” (Source: Zvi Zameret, The Melting Pot in Israel: The Commission of Inquiry Concerning the Education of Immigrant Children During the Early Years of the State, p. 48.)

Three Traits

Netanyahu’s Hostile Takeover of Israeli Media Started at The Post-haaretz

"In the fall of 1989 I was the Jerusalem Post’s diplomatic correspondent. I was summoned one day to the offices of Yehuda Levy, who had recently been installed as president and publisher of the newspaper by its new owners, the Canadian Hollinger company, owned by arch conservative Conrad Black and his Jewish junior partner, David Radler. The urgent summons, which went over the heads of my editors, worried me. I was well aware of Levy’s complaints against what he described as the Post’s imbalanced - or sometimes “extreme leftist” - reporting. My apprehensions were immediately borne out: As I entered his room, Levy told me in a scolding tone that Benjamin Netanyahu, then deputy foreign minister, had complained that my report on a speech he’d given at Tel Aviv University was wrong. Netanyahu can complain all he wants, I replied, but I have a tape recording of his address. Why don’t you listen to it yourself, I suggested, but Levy declined. Instead, he stunned me by demanding that I c...
